The Borderride 400
The story continues. This year we go further, harder and deeper into the unknown. Borders are inexhaustible and now let there be the same beautiful border post specimens on the border with Belgium and Luxembourg. One thing is for sure, this edition will be even more spectacular. 400km through six countries if you include the forgotten little country of Moresnet. This ride will make you forget that we live in the most densely populated area in Europe.
Of course, we have another gravel edition and a road edition, which will follow roughly the same route with the difference that the road edition will be over asphalt. Along the way, there will be six checkpoints. Those who find all the checkpoints can crown themselves a border rider and receive a nice memento.
This year we will depart from the Zinc Pansy where you can spend the night on Friday. Where you can relax before this epic ride, which will take you through the Belgian Ardennes, French Ardennes, Luxembourg, the Eifel and the High Fens. Through the hills of the Voer region to Liège, Durbuy, Houyet to the French border. After a very small loop in France, turn east and cycle through the southern Ardennes to Luxembourg. There are the same border posts here as along the Dutch-Belgian border and we will definitely tap one. The ride takes you to Luxembourg's three-country point along the Our River. From there we turn north along the German-Belgian border. After 285km we pass through Houffalize which can be an overnight stop for many people should they not make the distance in one day. The final stretch takes you over perhaps familiar terrain and sections in the opposite direction of the now well-known 11 reservoir ride.
What to expect. This ride is more remote and adventurous than previous flatter editions. Last year's edition counted about 2000hm. This year's ride will count around 6000hm. It will demand the maximum from your bike, mind and body. So be prepared for what awaits you. However, you will have plenty of time to complete the 400km trek. 40h after the start is the cutoff time to crown yourself Borderrider if you have passed all 6 checkpoints.
Like other years, we will ride with GPS trackers so we can follow everyone on their adventure. The route along the way is self-supported and you are on your own in terms of equipment and food. Riding in pairs or groups is of course allowed.
